Our Boxing Sparring Class Structure

All sparring classes take place inside the Modern Warriors Gym, featuring a regulation-size boxing ring, quality protective gear, and a safe, disciplined atmosphere. The facility is known for its respect-driven culture, where serious boxers train, learn, and grow together.

Class Structure

  • Level: Intermediate to Advanced

This program is open to beginners, intermediate students, and fitness-minded individuals who want practical self-defense skills rooted in real boxing. Whether you’ve never thrown a punch before or you’ve trained for years, each session adjusts to your level while emphasizing control and safety.

  • Format: Controlled Partner Sparring (Maximum 6 Students per Coach)

We keep our class sizes intentionally small — no more than eight students per instructor — so every participant receives personal attention, technical feedback, and correction. You’ll train in a semi-private environment that allows for both group motivation and individual improvement, ensuring quality instruction in every round.

  • Location: Modern Warriors Gym – New Westminster, BC

All sparring classes take place inside the Modern Warriors Gym, featuring a regulation-size boxing ring, quality protective gear, and a safe, disciplined atmosphere. The facility is known for its respect-driven culture, where serious boxers train, learn, and grow together.

  • Duration: 60-minute classes

  • Schedule: Weekly & Fight Camp Sessions

We offer multiple morning, evening, and weekend classes every week, allowing you to train consistently around your schedule. Sessions are progressive — the more you attend, the deeper your skill set becomes.

  • Equipment & Safety Requirements

    All participants must bring:

    • 16 oz gloves (sparring grade)
    • Headgear
    • Mouthguard
    • Groin protector (and chest protector for women)
    • Hand wraps

Safety is non-negotiable. Students must demonstrate control and respect at all times — no excessive force or ego-driven behavior will be tolerated.

FAQs

Sparring is where fighters are forged — not through chaos, but through awareness, control, and strategy. Join Super Sweet Science Boxing’s Sparring Program and experience what real technical growth feels like.

  • Do I need experience to spar?

Yes. All students must demonstrate control, defense, and fundamental proficiency before joining sparring sessions. If you’re new, start with our Beginner or Intermediate classes first.

  • Is sparring dangerous?

Not when done correctly. Our sessions are strictly controlled and focus on learning, not punishment. Coach Jason supervises all rounds to ensure safety and professionalism.

  • Will I get hit hard?

Sparring involves contact, but the intensity is adjusted to each student’s level. The goal is technical exchange, not knockouts.

  • What if I’ve never sparred before?

If you’ve never sparred, we’ll begin with light, controlled drills to help you develop comfort and composure. You’ll only move to live rounds once ready.

  • Do I need my own gear?

Yes — all participants must bring personal sparring gear for safety and hygiene. Coach Jason can recommend high-quality brands that meet competition standards.

  • Can women join sparring sessions?

Absolutely. Sparring is open to all experienced students who meet the technical and safety requirements, regardless of gender.

  • How often should I spar?

For most boxers, once or twice per week is ideal. This allows for recovery, reflection, and skill integration between sessions.
